OCEARCH at СÀ¶ÊÓƵ

СÀ¶ÊÓƵ has served as the academic home of OCEARCH for nearly a decade. OCEARCH and JU share a passion for scientific inquiry, collaborative research, experiential learning, innovation and sustainability. This ocean first partnership fosters and promotes unique opportunities for student-centric learning and meaningful scientific research.

The OCEARCH at СÀ¶ÊÓƵ partnership creates an institutional home for OCEARCH that helps expand its mission to promote global outreach, education and research and offers JU students unprecedented opportunities that foster experiential learning. Not only do students benefit from this collaboration at a classroom level, but they are also at the forefront of high-caliber research as JU and OCEARCH educate tomorrow’s leaders. The one-of-a-kind learning experiences this partnership yields further expands the depth of JU’s already nationally recognized marine sciences program and provides a variety of opportunities for students majoring in other disciplines including sustainability, environmental sciences, engineering, aviation, communications, and film.

OCEARCH GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS

Ocean Research, Rescue & Education

After generous contributions from the City of Jacksonville and the State of Florida, and in partnership with СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, the OCEARCH Global Headquarters is coming to Mayport, Florida. The headquarters will serve as the hub for OCEARCH’s collaborative research efforts, experiential education programs, and vessel operations. Programming will be centralized around three pillars:

  • Educate students and the public alongside research scientists.
  • Inspire visitors around the world to learn more about why Florida's coastline is so important for white sharks, fisheries, and the blue economy.
  • Enable collaborative, original scientific research; data-centric policy recommendations for marine affairs; and, marine rescue programs for protected species.

OCEARCH’s new dock and the home of the M/V OCEARCH is complete and the team is set to break ground on the headquarters building in late 2024.
