School of Engineering & TechnologyEngineering Management
Why Choose Our Program?
Engineering and technical businesses require an effective connection between design engineers and the business leadership in the organization. The engineering manager possesses the math, science, and engineering background necessary to optimally interact with the design engineering team while also having the business management, accounting, finance, marketing, and communication skills necessary to connect with senior business leadership. The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management bridges the gap between engineers and business leaders.
JU鈥檚 Engineering Management major combines a rich design-based engineering experience with business courses from JU's AACSB accredited Business College. These two functional areas are connected by four unique engineering management courses in quality engineering, operations engineering, project and value engineering, and design and analysis of manufacturing systems.
Engineering ManagementCurriculum
During the first two years, engineering management students are primarily focused on math, science, and engineering courses. This includes engineering design courses with their mechanical and electrical engineering peers. Engineering management students receive the same design-based experiences where they 鈥渓earn and apply鈥 and 鈥渄esign and build.鈥 This contrasts with most traditional engineering programs in which students spend their semesters taking math and science prerequisites before they are challenged with real engineering problems.
Students will then take business courses in accounting, finance, and marketing while also focusing on four specific engineering management courses. The engineering management students will meet back with their design engineering peers during the senior year design project where the engineering management students will be responsible for the management elements of the design effort.
All JU engineering students will graduate with a Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certificate. Engineering management students will also be able to test for certifications as Certified Associates in Project Management, Certified Quality Improvement Associate, and Certified Associate in Engineering Management.
Possibilities are Endless
The growth rate for engineering managers is expected to exceed two percent through 2031 with a median salary exceeding $100,000.
JU鈥檚 engineering management program supports careers in engineering, plant operations, facilities operations and management, and business operations.
JU engineering management students are competitive for internships with companies such as Johnson and Johnson Vision, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, JEA, and CSX.
