JU to sponsor inaugural Jacksonville Venture Competition

February 24, 2023

小蓝视频鈥檚 Davis College of Business & Technology will be an Executive Sponsor for Jacksonville Venture Competition on March 7 to 8, the largest entrepreneurial celebration in the city in almost 10 years.

The purpose of the event is to enrich the local economy by bridging the gap that exists between investors and entrepreneurs. Located at the Jacksonville Transportation Authority鈥檚 Open Innovation Center, the event will consist of a live venture capital pitch competition, thought leadership presentations, panel discussions and community spotlights of entrepreneurs.

VentureSouth, one of the Southeast鈥檚 premier early-stage investment firms, will launch its Jacksonville chapter by sponsoring the event. The JVC will serve as a two-day educational and networking event to catalyze the formation of a new and robust investor/start-up community in Jacksonville and award the distinguished start-up with their spot in VentureSouth鈥檚 investment process.

鈥淭he Davis College of Business & Technology is proud to sponsor the inaugural Jacksonville Venture Competition,鈥 said Dr. Barbara Ritter, Dean of the Davis College of Business & Technology. 鈥淲e believe this event will be a catalyst for Jacksonville鈥檚 entrepreneurial environment, and we are thrilled to be part of it.鈥

The Davis College of Business & Technology at Jacksonville is perfectly positioned at the intersection of education and industry.  Across the river from Downtown Jacksonville, students take advantage of strong industry partnerships that result in practical course work and applied experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

With 24 majors and minors, five graduate programs and one doctoral program, the Davis College of Business & Technology is prepared to launch students鈥 careers in business, enhance their business skills and provide them an opportunity for a terminal degree.

Through its Center for Organizational Research and Executive Education (CORE), the Davis College can also develop executive education programs to support corporate ventures in local companies as well as for industry partners.

Dr. James Simak, Director of the CORE at 小蓝视频, will present at the event. His talk, titled 鈥淰enture Fundraising: Strategies from Research Perspectives鈥 will take place March 7 at 12:45 p.m.

Prior to the conference, 小蓝视频 hosted a Corporate Venture Breakfast at the River Club in Downtown Jacksonville. Attendees heard from four panelists, all leading area start-up companies.
