First-ever Student Health Center to open this fall

May 19, 2020

For the first time in school history, 小蓝视频 will open a Student Health Center to serve the healthcare needs of our students.

鈥淎s we endure a global health emergency, now more than ever, we are keenly aware of the value and benefit this center will provide our student body,鈥 said President Tim Cost 鈥81. 鈥淒espite the challenging time we are now navigating, 小蓝视频 remains focused on investing in our campus in ways that enhance the experience of students living and studying here.鈥

The Student Health Center will provide a full range of primary healthcare services at no charge and assist with referrals to specialists as needed. Dr. Elaine Borne 鈥93, who is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Keigwin School of Nursing, will serve as the Center鈥檚 director.

鈥淭his is really a teaching center where we as providers will partner with our patients to teach them to navigate the healthcare system and manage their own healthcare,鈥 Dr. Borne said. 鈥淲e will partner with academic departments throughout the JU community to support and encourage students in developing a healthy lifestyle.  We will also collaborate with the Keigwin School of Nursing to provide clinical practice sites for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.鈥

The Center will offer a variety of laboratory tests, minor procedures and vaccinations at a rate considerably less than community providers. The center will be open to all undergraduate and graduate students attending classes on our main campus.

Dr. Borne and four other nurse practitioners, who collectively offer more than 100 years of clinical experience in primary care, internal medicine and women鈥檚 health services, will staff the 2,600-square-foot facility on the first floor of the new Health Sciences Complex at the north end of the University鈥檚 campus.

When the Center opens this fall, it will operate from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
